Starting My Meditation Journey

Since I am starting my meditation journey, I decided to start with 10 minute meditations. I searched on YouTube for “10 minute guided meditations”. Meditation can lower blood pressure, by reducing stress, and quieting the mind. I thought starting with a 10 minute meditation should be easy to do, as I can take 10 minutes out of my busy day to meditate.

The best time for me to meditate is first thing in the morning. I get up, take my dog out, have my vegan hot chocolate, and sit in my comfortable chair. Then I get out my iphone and find a meditation. I decided to start with guided meditations as I believe listening to someone’s voice can help me focus on my meditations. My mind is always full of thoughts and ideas. By the end of the day, I am ready to sit down, watch a couple of TV shows or a movie or even read a favorite book, so that isn’t the best time for me to meditate.

My First Meditation

One of the first meditations I chose was a 10 minute Chakra Balance Guided Meditation for Positive Energy. It is presented by Great Meditation. The deep, quiet voice of the speaker is very soothing. I can’t believe I was so lucky to find it on the first try. I looked for chakra meditations because my family and I were planning to visit Sedona in January. My sister and I wanted to visit the Vortexes there. We thought clearing our Chakra’s would open us up to receive a spiritual message. Unfortunately, we had to postpone our trip due to high Covid cases. This Chakra meditation really works for me. I’m so happy I found it.

Since I am beginning my meditation journey, I have been experimenting with other meditations. I will share my favorite ones with you in future blog posts.

Ear Buds or Headphones

I like to use earbuds while listening to the meditations. I wanted to share them with you but Amazon doesn’t sell them anymore. I found a pair of earbuds that are similar with a charging case and soft earbuds. They pair easily with my iphone. I also use them when I’m walking and want to talk on my phone. What a wonderful experience it is to listen with my earbuds instead of through my phone’s speaker. The sounds are richer, clearer, and more enjoyable to listen than my old hard wired earbuds. The sound from the earbuds surrounds me so that I don’t hear the furnace come on or the dog’s collar jingle as she moves about the house. Headphones would also work very well.

I now find myself looking forward to my meditations every morning. In fact, the other day I was running short on time, so decided to try a 5 minute meditation. It felt as though it was just starting and it was over. I had to find another 5 minute meditation to try, to get my “fix” for the day.
